Baschurch Primary School has been awarded the prestigious GOLD School Games Mark! This is a result of a huge amount of work and organisation by Mr McGrath, who has worked so hard to co-ordinate our sports provision. He has taken the children to numerous sporting events over the last few years and we really appreciate how much time he has put into it. We have so many opportunities for the children at Baschurch now which suit a wide range of interests. This has increased the uptake and motivation of the children, and led to us achieving this award at Gold Level. Some of the sports we now offer include archery, fencing, table tennis, new-age kurling, Change4Life, swimming, dodgeball, multisports, football and tennis.
The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Each School Games Mark application is divided into four sets of questions. They cover the following basic topics…
- Participation – how many young people at your school are being engaged in sporting activity?
- Competition – how many different sports are being played and how many competitions are being entered?
- Workforce – how many pupils are involved in leadership activities alongside taking part in competitions?
- Clubs – how many local links does your school have with clubs or establishments from the area?
