Eloise Williams Visit with Y6
Our Year 6 c
hildren are part of this year’s Readers to Writers project with Shrewsbury Bookfest . Drawing on the unique skills, experience and insight of children’s authors, the project focuses on helping to support children in the classroom with their creative writing skills. By the end of the project, every pupil will have written their very own book! We were incredibly privileged to be visited this week by award winning author – Eloise Williams, who led a special writing workshops to each class.

Having read several of her books, our class were eagerly looking forward to listening to Eloise give us an insight into an author’s writer’s brain as well as her top tips to writing to help us with our own books.

We all had great fun finding possible story inspirations in the small things and developing ideas through drama, senses and maps to cause a real buzz about writing and designing our own books.
A display of our research about each book’s historical setting and examples of some of our work we have completed using them
Having gathered so many ideas, story maps and top tips from Eloise, we are ready to begin! Over the next month, Y6 will be writing their own fiction books – choosing their own genre, audience and style before editing, illustrating and preparing them for publication! We will be needing some editors and proof-readers to provide some feedback before sharing our finished books with each class.
