Homework update

Due to several questions and a lot of information being given out at irregular intervals I have put together an overview of homework and home tasks to try and help.

Expected:

Reading weekly – recorded in reading records.
Times table practice – either in times table books or using TTRockstars (App login details in blue times table book).

Homework Menu – Children should select at least 2 pieces of this to complete before each half term holiday and put in homework books, bring in as a 3D piece or upload via purple mash (purple mash log in details in back of homework book).

Spellings – Spelling tasks will be given out each Friday and expected to be completed before the following Friday, when children will have their test. We are using an app called Spelling Shed and I will set the most up to date spelling rule using the app so children can also log in and practice at home. I will be able to see how many spellings children are getting right and be kept up to date with their progress – this does not have to be done on the app and can just be done using the paper worksheet sent home but I would recommend it where possible as I think children will find it more engaging and it is brilliant spelling practice each week (log in details in the back of homework books).

Additional/optional tasks:

Reading journal tasks – these can be completed as and when children wish and are not expected but just additional activities to go alongside their own personal reading (not school reading books).

IDL – Another online spelling programme we are using in Class to promote and extend children’s spelling knowledge, it is really good to link reading and spellings and the children enjoy using it (log in details in the back of homework books).

I hope this clarifies and clears up any confusion.
Many Thanks, Miss Clough.

Spellings 5.10.19

Spellings:
There will be no spellings sent home this week. Instead I have asked all children to practice spellings using the IDL Spelling program. Login details are in the back of their homework books and the website link for them to do this is:

https://idlsgroup.com/

This is not an app and needs to be done on the online website.
Have a lovely weekend, Miss Clough.

Year 2 Spellings and Reading Activities.

Hi everyone, I hope you have had a lovely weekend.

Just two quick notices from last week.

Spellings:
Due to Mrs Wickes and myself swapping between the two groups we have given them both new names so that the children know what spellings they should be practicing each week. The groups are the Wildflowers and the Tigers. I shall try and post a picture of the spellings each week but they should always be stuck in the front of the homework books ready for children to practice and children will know what group they are in.

Reading records:
In the front of the reading records I have put in some reading journal activities. These can be done as and when the children wish and can be put in their homework books along with any other work they complete at home. Some will be selected and photocopied to go into our class reading journal so that everyone can see the children interacting with their reading books.

Thanks, Miss Clough.

Spellings 21.9.19

Miss Clough’s group:

badge, edge, bridge, dodge, fudge, find, kind, mind, behind, child.

Mrs Wickes group:

think,  then, thin, shout, shine, find, kind, mind, behind, child

This week in Year 2

In Maths We have been working on Place Value this week. The focus has been counting the amount of tens and ones in a number (knowing that the 2 in 20 is the same as 2 tens so the value of the number isn’t 2 it’s 20). Any additional practice would be great.

We have been introduced officially to our Great Fire of London topic and already the children should know roughly what happened and have been introduced to some of the more significant people such as Samuel Pepys and King Charles.

Times table tests will be moved to a Thursday and children will all have new spellings in their homework book this evening.
