Summer term in Year 4

The Summer term information letter is posted below. This contains all the information you will need for the new term. Have a very Happy Easter.

Red Nose Day – Friday 20th March 2026

It is Red Nose Day on Friday 20th March! It’s time to Make Yourself Funny for Money!

On this day, children are invited to come to school wearing something that makes them smile. This could be a funny accessory, a bright and cheerful outfit or Red Nose Day merchandise. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, the aim is just to have fun and share a laugh together.

World Book Day coming soon…

World Book Day – Thursday 5th March 2026 !

This year our theme at Baschurch is ‘Readers to Writers’ and we would like children to come to school dressed up in their favourite character AND also bring their book in with them.  Please don’t feel the need to buy any costumes-many items can be found at home such as pyjamas, superhero’s, princesses, Halloween costumes or nativity costumes to name a few.

We welcomed a visitor to our class.

This week, we had a visit to our class from Mr Monro who told us all
about the African countries he has spent time in and about gold mining. He even had video messages for us from his friends and colleagues who spoke in their native languages. We all learned so much and loved the artefacts too. Thank you Mr Monro.

Thank you

A huge thank you from all of us in Year 4 for our gorgeous Christmas gifts. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing all the children back in school on Tuesday 6th January 2026.

This week in Year 4.

A super start to the week. We will be working on multiplication and division and today we learned how we could use our 5 and 2 times tables to work out or 7’s. We will finish writing our poems about a river and we well edit and publish these too. In dance we created a phrase of movement and performed these in pairs to the rest of the class. In Art we will complete our snowflakes ready for the Christmas tree festival at the church. Look out for them when you visit and remember to vote for Baschurch Primary School. In Geography we follow the journey of the river Nile and learn about the Aswan dam and it’s impact on those living along the banks of the Nile. In Science Mrs Davies will teach the children about sound and then the children will practice their Spanish. We have very nearly finished our class novel, The Ancient Egypt Sleepover and we will start reading The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis next. Christmas festivities will start and we will base our writing on ‘The Polar Express’. Times tables and Spelling tests as usual. The children are doing brilliantly and thank you for listening to your child regularly.

What’s going on in Year 4 this week?

We are having so much fun learning the moves for our cha-cha challenge this week and we have started creating our own ‘Spy’ dances in PE too. We have started writing our own poetry about a river using metaphors, personification and following a rhyming pattern. This links to our Geography study of the river Nile. The children have already retained many facts and are starting to use Geographical vocabulary correctly. We learned to draw poppies for remembrance day and thought about those who died to give us our freedom today. In maths we have begun our work on multiplication and division. The class are working brilliantly together. They are a great team. We are so looking forward to Children in Need celebrations on Friday, raising lots of money for charity whilst having lots of fun.

Harvest Festival

We are really excited to share our poem ‘Let’s Celebrate Harvest’ with you all tomorrow at church. Together we have written, edited, re-drafted, added actions and rehearsed, ready to thank God for all the wonderful food we have to eat. Come and join us if you can.
