Maths:
Children have been focusing on subtraction using the column method this week. This has been a very tricky concept and although children are starting to pick it up, it would be great if you could spend some time on the homework this week with your child to reinforce this concept.
I shall post a picture of the method so that you can support at home.
English:
This week we have been looking at repetition to add effect to a piece of writing, adding suffixes –ly and –ed words and using onomatopoeia’s to add appropriate detail.
Children also created a talent show poster to accompany our written piece.
Spellings:
Children have all completed their spelling test today and have new spellings in their homework book ready for next week. This will be their last set before the Christmas holidays.
RE:
In Religious Education this week we watched a video and read the Christmas story. The children were encouraged to think about why Baby Jesus was so important and why so many people wanted to go and visit him. We looked at the word ‘incarnation’ which means in human flesh and discussed how Jesus was the son of God and how God had sent him to Earth to help save people.
We then created a list of all the people in the Christmas story that knew Jesus was a special baby.
We also all made Christingles for our Christingle service with Reverend Linda which took place this afternoon. Children have been allowed to bring these home so take great care with them.
This has all tied in really nicely with our Nativity practise. I am hoping to record the video at the beginning of next week and so will have the link sent out by the end of next week for you all to watch (all being well).
Children are allowed to come in Christmas jumpers every day next week but MUST still wear their normal school uniform as well. If they do not wish to wear a Christmas jumper that is fine but they must wear their school jumper instead.
Wednesday 16th – Children can come in party clothes as it is Christmas dinner and Christmas party day.
Have a lovely weekend, Miss Clough.
