This week 9th -14th we have had a full on week. I am writing this to keep you updated on our weekly schedule.

• Maths: this week in maths we have been doing percentages, decimals and fractions. We finished that unit at the end of the week. everyone has been working hard to finish the unit. Next week we will be doing perimeter and area.
• P.E: This week in P.E we have been doing athletics and tennis. Last week some of our children were invited to cross country. Year five girls had a second place, third place, fourth, fifth and sixth. Isla Lewis was the highest girl in second with Flo closely following in third. We have been running miles and studying various paces for other distances.

I will be giving you a little review of most of the subjects that we have been learning about in class 5 :

English: At the start of the week on the 9th of March 2025 we stared writing our mystery story’s following the book Lizzie and Belle Mysteries. Some of us are writing our own version of book 1 and some of us are making up a book 2, where we continued from a cliff hanging ending from book 1.

Maths: We have been doing decimals, fractions and percentages all in 1. We have just ended this unit and about to move on to a different one which is Area and Perimeter which is all to do with measuring.

Science: In science we are doing the topic living things and their habitats which at the moment we are doing about Mammals.

P.E: In P.E we are doing athletics and learning how to maintain a pace in a certain amount of time with Mr McGrath.  We have a been doing tennis with El. Lots of us went to Cross Country at The Corbet last week,  I came 3rd in my race!

Year 5

Maths: We have been learning percentage, decimals and fractions, we have been figuring out fractions of amounts.

English: We are currently working on our own mystery stories based around the style of J.T Williams, the author of The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries. We designed front covers and blurbs that had a matching style. We have finished our first draft and our moving onto our final one which will be entering a Baschurch school competition.

In geography we have been learning about compass points and coordinates and how they can direct you somewhere. The eight compass is a compass made up of eight points- north, south, east, west, north east, north west, south east and south west. Coordinates and grid references help you find somewhere on a map easily if you look on the sides. We have been giving directions on a made up map to different places, then were given a map of shrewsbury and had to try and find different places. We also looked at an atlas and found the grid references and coordinates of different countries, as well as their capitals.
