Welcome to Year 6

Tag Rugby School Games Shropshire Champions!

What an achievement for our amazing Tag Rugby Team!

After progressing through two tournaments to qualify, our team started the day confidently, progressing through their group with 5 wins out of 5.

This set up a final with Oswestry School. The step up in quality was evident right from the start with Oswestry taking a 3-1 lead after the first few minutes. But then followed a period of immense defence and outstanding attack from our team, turning the score line around in the middle section of the match and bringing it back to 4-4 with 3 minutes to go. 4-4 became 5-5 setting up a tense final two minutes where one moment of brilliance could make all the difference. The moment of brilliance came from Baschurch, where an excellent team try made the score 6-5. With Oswestry pressing hard in the final minute for a reply, the Baschurch defence forced a turnover and raced over the try line to secure victory.

This win marks an incredible achievement, with over 100 schools and 1000 pupils taking part in the School Games tournament. Well done to all children involved throughout each round!

Autumn Term – Week 2 (for Monday 16th September)

Week 2 – for Monday 16th September

This term we will be learning about life in Baschurch (Britain) during World War 2. There are always great stories, artefacts or information our children can learn about closer to home!

Your task is to interview an member of your family or a friend about World War II — was your grandmother evacuated? If so, where? Do your family have any artefacts from the war—what were they? What memories do they have of the war? Rationing? etc

We will be sharing and displaying the information or pictures as a class during the week. Please feel free to send any pictures or copies of photos to school (via the school office) where we can print out to share.

Autumn Term 1 – Week 1 ( Mrs Beard’s group)

For 16th September

Challenge words – Year 5/6

This half term, we will be mainly focusing on the Year 6 statutory words which encompass all the learning objectives Years 5 & 6. It is important you practise the spellings using the techniques we are teaching in class – 1) breaking down each work by saying it out loud, breaking it up into syllables then sounds. Once you have written it, read it our/say it out loud again to check you have spelt each syllable. 2) checking you known what it means, can you use it in a sentence?     There are games and practise sessions to complete on Spelling Shed (login details in pink reading records)
