Airfix Make and Take Week
Date: 27 October – 2 November 2018
Time: 11.00am to 3.00pm
Cost: £3.00 per person / Admission to Museum FREE
The popular ‘Airfix Make and Take’ week is back at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford for October half term.  This family friendly model making activity will take place from Saturday 27 October to Friday 2 November keeping little aviators entertained throughout the school break.
Children can choose from a selection of kits and build their models nestled amongst the Museum’s collection of aircraft on display in Hangar 1.  Kits on offer during ‘Airfix Make and Take’ week include a 1:72 scale Sopwith Pup and if youngsters need inspiration painting their model, they can take a look at the real First World War aircraft on display in the Museum’s War in the Air hangar.  Also available is a German First World War Albatross Biplane and Second World War Japanese Mitsubishi Zero.
The half term activity is suitable for children aged 8+ and you don’t have to be a skilled modeller to take part as staff and members from the Shropshire Scale Modellers will be there to lend a hand and ensure visitors get the most from their modelling.
If building an Airfix kit is too fiddly for your little ones, families with younger children can opt to assemble and decorate a wooden biplane.  Each kit contains pre-cut wooden pieces, plastic screw and easy to follow instructions.  To give your wooden kit the wow factor, the Museum will provide all the colours and accessories needed to help personalise your model including foam letters and coloured jewels!
Not only do participants get to take their models home, organisers are also giving modellers the chance to WIN an Airfix prize bundle worth over £75.  Packed with everything any young modeller could wish for including three Airfix sets with accessories and an Airfix quick build kit.  To enter the competition, hit ‘Like’ on the Museum’s Facebook page @rafmuseumcosford and tag us in a photo of your completed model kit by the end of the day on Sunday 4 November 2018. The winner will be selected and the prize will be posted out so they can continue the model making fun at home. Plus, two lucky runners up will also receive an Airfix starter kit.  So, if you think you can build the perfect Airfix kit or give your model the most creative makeover, why not give it a go!
RAF Museum Cosford Public Events Manager, Abi Betteridge said:
“The RAF Museum is perfect for families looking for a great day out.  Entry is free of charge, plus we have four hangars packed with aircraft and vehicles to explore, a hands on interactive fun ‘n’ flight area and a 4D Experience, so there’s plenty to keep all ages entertained.  During the school break, we will be running our ‘Airfix Make and Take’ week which is one of our most popular activities and one that even adults love getting involved with. For any families who want to get on board our aircraft, we will be running daily Nimrod tours throughout half term where visitors can learn all about its fascinating intelligence gathering role with the RAF.”
Tickets for the model making activity are available from the Visitor Centre on arrival or from the Museum Shop. The activity will run from 11.00am to 3.00pm each day and participation is just £3.00 per person.  All materials including glue, paints and brushes will be provided by the Museum (children will need to be supervised by an adult and may require assistance with the model making).  Then why not continue the fun at home…all participants will receive a 10% discount voucher to use on model kits for sale in the Museum shop.
PLUS…in addition to the half term activities, visitors will also have the exciting opportunity to climb on board the Hawker Siddeley Nimrod R.1 XV249, daily tours run from 27 October to 4 November 2018.  Tickets cost £5 per person and are available to purchase online at www.rafmuseum.org/cosford or on the day, subject to availability and weather permitting.
The Museum is open daily from 10am and entry is FREE of charge.
