Nut Free School

We would like to remind parents/carers that we are a ‘nut free’ school.

We currently have children in our school who are severely allergic to nuts, and can suffer from life threatening reactions if they eat, smell or touch any foods containing nuts

In the interests of protecting pupils and staff with nut allergies, we request that you do not send your children to school with any of the following:

  • Packaged nuts
  • Peanut butter or chocolate spreads containing nuts
  • Cereal, granola or chocolate bars containing nuts
  • Cake or biscuits containing nuts
  • Peanut-based sauces like satay
  • Any food made with sesame seeds (which can cause a similar allergic reaction)

The above list is not exhaustive. Please check the ingredient lists carefully.

We are grateful for your cooperation in helping to keep our pupils and staff safe.

News from Shropshire Highways

We would like to make you aware of upcoming/planned surface dressing works for this financial year (2024-2025) that fall within your area.

This site has been identified via a combination of local engineering judgment and asset management data as needing essential maintenance. The site forms part of a countywide programme of schemes, surface dressing is a quick, efficient and cost-effective way of preventing potholes and extents the life of the road. It forms a major part of our annual road maintenance programme and is being carried out alongside other preventative and reactive maintenance work.

Surface dressing offers many advantages:

  • It seals the road surface which prevents water getting into the underlying road structure.
  • It restores skid resistance to the road surface.
  • It helps to reduce spray caused by vehicles travelling on the wet road surface.
  • The rapid speed of the process means that disruption to road users, local businesses and emergency services is minimised.
  • It can extend the life of the road considerably, maximising the cost-effectiveness of limited highway maintenance funds.

  • Permitted dates have an element of float built in, to allow for unforeseen conditions and delays. In most cases, we will endeavour to complete the surface dressing in 1 day. Subsequent operations (mentioned below) such as sweeping and line markings will follow on.

Broadly speaking the process for delivering surface dressing is as follows:

  1. If a site requires stud removal or proud white lines, these are removed – this must be done before the surface dressing works under a closure (as many studs are in the centre of the carriageway).
  2. On the day of surface dressing we do a pre-sweep to ensure site is clean before application of surface dressing.
  3. Surface dressing coat is applied to the carriageway, after which the chippings are laid on top.
  4. Site is then open to traffic to allow embedment.
  5. Within 24hrs of the site being surface dressed we then carry out a back-sweep (suction sweep)
  6. 7 days later we typically carry out another back sweep to pick up loose chippings.
  7. Following the second sweep road studs/ Cats eyes/ Studs are reinstated along with road markings and High Friction Surfacing as required.

We hope that this investment will be seen as positive news and although the process is fairly quick, it can cause some local disruption – for which we apologise in advance.

If you have any specific concerns, queries, or any local issues that would arise if we commenced works on the planned dates noted above – please let us know. We would be grateful if these could be sent to Shropshire Highways via email: Highwaysconsultation@shropshire.gov.uk
