We would like to ask parents to help support us with a few social media issues we are having in school. There are a few children who are upsetting each other via these apps, despite talks with parents and teachers. We would like to ask you to consider limiting screen time or access to Instagram, Snapchat, messenger or other such apps so that they cannot receive unkind messages during these periods of time. Many of us have children of our own and so we know how hard it is too extract their phones and tablets from them, but from our experience, if children can tell their friends ‘my phone is locked from X pm’ then this takes the pressure off of them.
Children are coming into school and asking us to tell other children off for messages they have received out of school time. We try to support the children as much as possible, but we must remind you that the main responsibility lies with you.
Below are two links to show you how you can limit apps and set time limits on their devices. A quick google search will bring up lots more advice as well as other apps that can do this for you:
Our priority is the childrens’ safety, their well-being, their ability to achieve their potential in school and being in the right frame of mind to do so. Thank -you very much for your support with this.
